Painters Invercargill was founded by Hamish McKenzie, an Invercargill painter who developed his interest in the trade while helping with home maintenance and renovation projects around Southland. His early painting experience included older weatherboard houses, interior renovations and properties where years of weather exposure had affected the existing coatings. He learned that a paint job is only as dependable as the preparation beneath it. That lesson shaped his view of the trade and the way he wanted his own business to operate.
Hamish grew up with an appreciation for Southland's practical approach to work. He understood that homeowners wanted someone who would explain the job clearly, turn up prepared and treat their property with care. When he established Painters Invercargill, his aim was to build a small local service where preparation and communication were given the same attention as the finished appearance. Rather than making big promises about every surface, he wanted customers to understand what their property actually needed.
The team includes Sophie Wilson, who enjoys detailed interior work and colour coordination, and Callum Fraser, who has a practical interest in exterior preparation and organising larger painting tasks. Together, they approach each job with an emphasis on surface condition, suitable materials and tidy work areas. Southland remains central to the business, from its Invercargill base to the surrounding communities of Winton, Riverton, Bluff and beyond. We believe being a local painting business means understanding the region's climate, respecting the people who live here and taking pride in work that is done carefully.
